Tried to get an embedded mp3 player here but couldn't. Sorry. Go check out: www.darkwasthenight.com
One more record to go at the time of this writing. Worst songs: easily "Lenin" by The Arcade Fire, which is of the same awful quality as the b-side ot "Keep the Car Running," "Mimizan" byt Bierut—hipster tripe—, and "Die" by Iron & Wine, which is not bad, just slight and forgettable. Picking favorites is too hard: there is a lot of good stuff here.
Dark Was the Night is wonderful. Go get yourself a copy and help fight the AIDS epidemic.

spying the tracklisting just a lil' while ago, there's little i'm interested in on it. iron and wine was the biggest culprit, though, so glad we see eye to eye there.
we do the aids walk every year. that'll do for me!
the national is prob. the only band i care about on there. a little bit for the arcade fire and gillian welch, but connor oberst's presence on her track cancels it out, unfortunately.
fun fact tho: beirut got their big break playing on the coco66 stage.
I didn't know half of these bands and was not interested in some of the ones I do know: Conor Oberst, etc, but I am really impressed in the overall strength of this collection. Conor doesn't overpower Welch on Lua, one of his best songs; it is a really nice song. You don't like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings?! They're fucking awesome and so up your alley it hurts.
And Kronos Quartet?! Have you heard Yeasayer? Big Peter Murphy influence detectable. Sufjan Stevens is also on Sounds Familyre; his piece is huge and ambitious and features what sounds like an abbreviated piano concerto in the middle of the song. I'll play the compilation for you when you come over sometime. We haven't spent enough time listening to records the past few times you've been over.
I'm really enjoying We Are Him.
i'll happily listen with ya when i'm next in new paltz. perhaps there's something i'm missing. krono's quartet are good, but i don't know where to begin. sufjan- not my bag. i'm glad oberst knew where to bow down.
happy hamburger helper day!
i know nothing about sharon jones- will check her and her lot out, asap!
curious what you hated on the valentine's playlist. that psychedelic furs song is shameless, and very bad, but i still love it.
grouper was amazing. annoying, but amazing. the crowd was rude and kept walking in late, interrupting matters, and seeing her in blue jeans and a plain black t-shirt ruined the mystery a bit, but the music, even more breathtaking in the flesh. a little more vocals, a welcome mixing decision. wish you could have been there with me.
oh, and i know you hate the buzzcocks, and also probably the other more pop-punk jam. and the pet shop boys- a band i love i don't expect anyone else to.
curious what you made of the stills. unfortunately, that's their only good song.
Were the Stills the live goth band? I heard a good depeche mode influence. I have a hard time appreciating live you tube videos. Not the way to hear music. Sounded like it had promise.
You nailed it with the buzzcocks and the pet shop boys.
The first song was funny, and got me in the mood for a)garbage and b) more eighties dance music. currently listening to Talk Talk's first two albums.
absolute body control was the live goth band---an old minimal wave band who just were reactivated. i definitely understand about youtube, hard to get a good first impression. the stills were the newer joy division-esque band. another in the wave of many!
both a) and b) are great! and i am glad to see yr enjoying b/e/a/t/b/o/x, if your facebook status is of any indication.
The Stills video reminded me of a much better video, song, and band, so it had some use. I rewatched Song 2 and then rewatched The Universal. Ah, Blur. How can I love a band so much, sell all of their albums save one, and never listen to them? They're fucking great.
Song 2 always hits the spot. The Universal always hits the spot. For Tomorrow always hits the spot. To the End always hits the spot. Tender always hits the spot. I need to get m blur on again when I get finished listening to a bunch of new music.
i can help with all the blur. let me know if there's anything i can send ya.
